Camp Safety & Supervision
Each day follows a clear, kid-friendly routine with games, snacks, lunch, and outdoor adventures—so campers and parents know what’s packed into every hour.Safety at Kustermans Camp
At Camp Kustermans our top priority is creating a safe, supportive environment for every camper. We combine proactive planning, trained staff, and clear communication with families to ensure every child is cared for.
Pre-Camp Contact
If you have noted any health issues, allergies or other concerns for your child, a member of our Camp Kustermans team will contact you before your camper’s week begins. This is to ensure that we can provide them the best care and create a response plan together.
Pick-Up & Drop-Off
Campers are released only to authorized adults listed during registration. Staff verify ID when needed, and any changes must be communicated in advance to ensure safe daily transitions.
Behaviour & Emotional Safety
Counselors use positive guidance and clear expectations to support campers throughout the day. If a camper feels overwhelmed or a conflict arises, staff intervene quickly to ensure everyone feels safe, supported, and included.
Injuries and Incidents
Parents are notified immediately of any illness, injury, distress, unsafe behavior, or other significant concerns. All incidents are documented and signed by staff, with caregivers signing at pickup to confirm they’ve been informed.Supervision & Staff Training
Our counselors are carefully selected and trained to manage groups, respond to emergencies, and create a safe, engaging environment for every child. Meet our trained staff.Staff Certifications

- Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- In-house staff training includes: supervision and proper use to safely run all activities, allergic reactions, heat and sun stroke, crisis intervention…
Supervision Ratios
We maintain low counselor‑to‑camper ratios to ensure constant supervision in all activities. Groups stay together throughout the day, and transitions between areas are always guided by our staff—following the structure outlined in our Weekly Schedule.Camp Leadership Program
Teens aged 13–15 can join our Camp Leadership Program and become Counselors‑in‑Training (C.I.T.). They’ll build skills, gain experience, and receive mentorship from senior staff. At the end of the week, each C.I.T. gets a certificate and feedback from the Director—perfect for future job applications. Graduates may apply to become camp counselors at age 16.Camper Readiness & Support Requirements
To maintain a safe and positive experience for all campers, we ask families to ensure their child meets basic independence and support criteria before attending.Independence
Campers aged 4–11 must be able to use the washroom and change clothes on their own to fully enjoy the experience.
Respect & Behaviour
Campers are expected to follow behaviour guidelines. If a child struggles to meet these standards, they may be asked to leave early to maintain a positive experience for others.Special Needs Support
If a camper requires a behaviour plan, Educational Assistant, or nurse at school, the same support must be provided at camp.Health & Medical Safety
We work closely with families to ensure every camper’s health needs are understood and supported. Our team follows clear protocols for allergies, dietary requirements, and emergency medication to keep campers safe throughout the day. Check our packing list.Allergies
Known allergies will be carefully documented for camp staff, detailing the specific symptoms, preventative measures, and response plans in the event of an allergic reaction.
Dietary Restrictions
We will provide detailed information on camp foods, sanitation procedures, and safety measures to address the child’s needs.
Medical Needs
Emergency medication like epi‑pens or inhalers is checked daily by the counselors. Parents provide instructions during registration to ensure proper handling and response.
Heat Safety
Camp Kustermans is an outdoor camp that prioritizes the well-being of our campers by implementing measures to protect them from excessive heat and sun exposure. All staff members at Camp Kustermans are trained to identify and respond to heatstroke and sunstroke effectively. Explore our outdoor activities.Sun Protection
If you forget sunscreen, we’ll provide it. Counsellors remind campers to reapply throughout the day and assist if authorized. Campers with hats are encouraged to wear them—any refusal is communicated to parents.Hydration Routines
Water bottles are kept in the group wagon and refilled regularly. Hydration breaks are built into the schedule to ensure campers stay cool and hydrated during all activities.
Cool-Down Zones
Campers rotate through shaded activity zones with built-in water games. On hot days, the schedule shifts to include extra splash activities and cooling breaks.
